Sample dispensing pack

Dispensing an accurate volume of liquid is a common requirement to many different industries where specific liquids need to be precisely added into vials, tubes or microplates in an automated manner.

Whether it is for reagent preparation, manufacturing, or dosing applications, the same advantages are found:

  • obtaining reliable and precise control over the dispensed volume.
  • reducing the risk of contamination and errors.
  • increasing the efficiency and accuracy of procedures.

Nevertheless, existing solutions often lack in versatility and sometimes cannot cover the overall requirements of the application.

Sample dispensing pack setup

We offer a tailored solution with high versatility, which enables fast and precise volume dispensing with a high degree of control over the actual results, and an automatic correction of any drift that could happen over time (change of temperature, change of viscosity, variations due to the system).

To do this, we offer you a setup in which the injected volume is controlled by the opening time of a fast-switching valve, downstream of a liquid under constant pressure. When the valve is open, the liquid flows at a rate that is measured by a high-accuracy flow sensor. In the event of a drift, the total volume of liquid injected over one cycle can be corrected by applying a larger or smaller pressure over the liquid, thanks to our high-accuracy high-response time pressure controller (see figure below).

The sample dispensing pack contains:

  • OB1 pressure controller (Elveflow) with as many channels as lines to control
  • Flow sensor: MFS (water-based solutions / 5% accuracy) or BFS (calibration free / 0.2% accuracy) (Elveflow)
  • Reservoirs
  • Elveflow SDK (C++ / Matlab /  Labview / Python) or serial communication protocol
  • High-speed valve
  • The appropriate system to convey the recipient

Microfluidic automated sample dispensing applications

There are numerous industrial uses for automated sample dispensing, including:

  • Pharmaceutical and biotechnology: Automated sample dispensing systems are used in drug discovery and development processes, where small volumes of reagents or compounds need to be dispensed accurately and rapidly.

  • Food and beverage: The technology is used to measure precise amounts of ingredients during the production of food and beverage products, such as sauces, flavorings, and syrups.

  • Environmental testing: Automated sample dispensing systems are used in environmental testing laboratories to dispense small volumes of water, soil, or air samples into vials or plates for analysis.

  • Medical diagnostics: These systems are used in clinical and research laboratories to dispense small volumes of biological samples, such as blood, serum, or urine, into diagnostic tests for analysis.

  • Chemical manufacturing: Automated sample dispensing systems are used in chemical manufacturing plants to measure precise amounts of raw materials or chemicals during the production process.

Overall, automated sample dispensing systems make the process faster, more efficient, repeatable, and temperature-independent, leading to increased productivity and reduced costs in various industries.

With our all-in-one setup, you can get all of this for your industrial process starting from 5K Euros!

Which flow rate sensor should be choose?

For sample dispensing, you can either use MFS flow sensor (Elveflow) based on thermal conductivity technology, or Bronkhorst flow sensor (Elveflow) based on Coriolis principles, that is temperature independent. Both sensors have pros and cons. We provide some features of these two sensors to help you choose the one that is convenient for your application and budget.

MFS BFS COMPARISON technical specifications MICROFLUIDICS

Elveflow offers different Premium Coriolis flow rate sensors, which vary by their operating flow rate range. The following table sums up the main features of the different sensors:

Specification- BFS microfluidics

(1) Guaranteed at constant temperature and for unchanging process and environment conditions.

(2) Depends on flow rate, heat capacity fluid, T amb., T fluid and cooling capacity.

(3) To be rigidly bolted to a stiff and heavy mass or construction for guaranteed stability. External shocks or vibrations should be avoided.
