Volume dispensing setup

The automatic volume dispensing system includes several components: a multichannel OB1 pressure controller that regulates pressure, an in-line pressure sensor to monitor the injection pressure, a fast-switching 2/2 solenoid valve, and a valve controller.

The pressure controller injects one or more solutions accurately (down to 1%) and stably into your fluidic path. Additionally, when combined with the pressure sensor, it establishes a feedback loop that maintains a constant pressure at the specific injection point. This ensures that the system dispenses a consistent and reproducible volume of fluid over time.

Furthermore, the solenoid valve provides greater flexibility for the dispensing options. It is in fact possible to control the state of the solenoid valve with the valve controller, thus dispensing fluids continuously or in digital steps. This makes it easier to customize the dispensing mode to any specific experimental needs.

The volume dispensing setup contains:

  • OB1 flow controller (Elveflow)
  • BFS flow sensors or in-line pressure sensors (MPS) (Elveflow)
  • 2/2 valves and controller (MUX Wire) or any commercially available high-speed valve
  • Any commercially available nozzle
  • Pressure-tight reservoirs, connectors, tubing, filters,…
  • Controlling software (Elveflow) or UART serial communication protocol (optional: SDK libraries; C++, Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW)

Why using a pressure-driven flow controller for volume dispensing

Many industries rely on volume dispensing for their operations, such as pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, semiconductors, and electronics manufacturing. Accurately and efficiently dispensing small volumes of liquids is crucial in these fields to conduct experiments and manufacture high-quality products.

Pressure-driven flow controllers are highly advantageous for volume dispensing applications as they provide greatly stable and accurate control over fluid flow rates, thus making them ideal for dispensing small volumes of liquids in the nL to uL range. Furthermore, they offer a gentle non-contact method of dispensing fluids, which is critical when dealing with sensitive samples that could be damaged by traditional methods.

Using pressure-driven flow controllers, researchers and manufacturers can achieve high precision and repeatability, reducing sample-to-sample variation and minimizing sample loss and contamination.

The pressure-based system allows for precise and reliable dispensing without causing damage to sensitive samples. This technology is also widely flexible and can handle a wide range of liquids, from low-viscosity to high-viscosity fluids, making it ideal for a wide range of applications.
