Last month, our Microfluidics experts, Sébastien Cargou and Miza Cognart, embarked on an exciting journey from the capital of France, to the vibrant city of Tokyo, Japan.
The trip was centered around the prestigious Cheminas conference at Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology (TUAT), where we proudly joined forces with our valued partner, Kyodo International. This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our complete product range, including our latest OEM solutions for microfluidics applications that call for automation and integration. This joint venture was made possible by Takashi-san, Sales Director of Kyodo International, one of our major associates in Japan.
TUAT is known for its spacious and well-maintained campuses located in the suburbs of Tokyo, specifically in Fuchu and Koganei. Koganei Campus is primarily dedicated to engineering and technology disciplines. It also features state-of-the-art engineering labs, workshops and technology centers. Participating at the Cheminas conference here was highly complimentary. As we focused on the latest advancements in chemical and biological micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and nanotechnology, we learnt from researchers, scientists and professionals from around the world and discussed innovations, shared research findings, and explored applications in areas such as biosensors, lab-on-a-chip devices, and nanotechnology.
The second day of the conference was filled with inspiring interactions. We connected with many of our current customers and met potential new ones. It was exhilarating to see enthusiastic students and researchers presenting their innovative work. The topics covered range from fundamental research to practical applications in fields like healthcare, environmental monitoring, and industrial processes. It definitely served as a platform for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among professionals in the field of chemical and biological microsystems.
Taking full advantage of our presence in Japan, we spent the third day visiting some of our esteemed industrial clients. Those included discussions about how our microfluidic technologies can complement imaging and microscopy platforms, as well as cell culture and incubation monitoring solutions.
We also assisted some researchers with the setup and installation of our microfluidic systems, ensuring optimal performance and integration into their research processes. Our R&D lead in Paris provided remote support, demonstrating our commitment to seamless customer service regardless of location.
On the final day, we were invited by Timothee Mouterde (Mouterde lab) from the University of Tokyo to conduct a demonstration of our microfluidic pressure sensor. Mouterde’s Lab focuses on experimental research into fluid-solid interactions, aiming to control liquid behavior through surface property modifications. Their work includes studying micro and nanometric surface geometry and chemistry to influence droplet behavior and investigating fluid and ion transport in molecular-sized channels. Their goal is to develop new technologies to address challenges like climate change, access to clean water, and sustainable energy production. We assisted the team with the calibration of their OB1 flow controller and had engaging scientific discussions, rounding off the trip on a high note.
Our journey to Japan was packed with enriching meetings and inspiring moments. We’re already looking forward to our next adventure! A warm thank you to all the incredible people we met in Japan.
