Flexpenser presents a platform technology to revolutionize liquid dispensing systems. The solution is simple, yet a game changer for any industry that requires sustainable, simple, and low-cost solutions to their liquid products. They have developed and are continuing to further develop robust liquid delivery systems for different markets like beverage and consumer goods, using their patented platform technology. Flexpenser uses a customizable membrane and nozzle to create airtightness and store the liquids in a leakage-proof system.
The core benefits of using this technology are:
Flexpenser technology can be incorporated or used for a wide range of applications for all industries where fluid dispensing control is needed such as pharmaceutical, food and beverage, home care, beauty, and more in packaging and appliances.
“The main specific challenge we had was obtaining measurements regarding our technology’s performance in a controlled environment. Elveflow’s OB1 pressure control unit and sensors allowed us to have a test platform on which we can test our technology before it is implemented in appliances and other products. ”
Forrest Putnam, Engineer
The development of a platform that yielded stable and consistent results was pivotal for Flexpenser. This platform needed to match these requirements for precise fluid control under vacuum and high-pressure conditions to develop an accurate understanding of Flexpenser valve’s performance. The company utilized Elveflow’s OB1 pressure controller to comprehensively test the Flexpenser systems under a broad spectrum of operational conditions to simulate the valves performance in a highly controlled and predictable environment to best understand how the valves will work in their specified applications.
The Elveflow system facilitated Flexpenser’s analysis of both steady and unsteady state responses, as well as transitional responses. Additionally, it enabled the recording of flow rate and pressure, which was instrumental in the testing and refinement of the technology needed for specific customer applications.
Flexpenser was able to utilize pressure and flow sensors provided by Elveflow in tandem with the Elveflow pressure controller. This combination allowed for the validation of valve flow losses. By verifying these losses, Flexpenser was able to accurately calibrate and confirm losses for other fluid control systems, both with and without the Flexpenser valve.
These sensors also empowered Flexpenser to construct closed-loop feedback control systems. These systems were based on flow and pressure at designated points within the system, enabling the evaluation of the dynamic response of the valves to varying inputs.
Examining Flexpenser’s technology and its responses under various pressure outputs enabled to observe diverse flow regimes. These flow regimes had distinct features, including appearances like “drop” or “jet” dispensing, which could be customized according to customer requirements, as well as the impact of viscosity on the Flexpenser valve.
These studies could be conducted either by manually measuring the output volume or by employing the flow sensors available with Elveflow.
Elveflow provided Flexpenser with the capability to test the reliability of the Flexpenser valves across multiple uses and extended intervals between uses. For pressure-driven actuation, the Flexpenser valves have been shown to maintain a consistency level within 5% of the average value.
Elveflow enabled Flexpenser to analyze the valve’s consistency for a wide range of flow rates, time durations, and flow behaviors. By using the four ports available, multiple iterations and different valve designs could be tested simultaneously to assess manufacturing quality along with parallel design testing to determine the best valve for our customer’s application in the most time-efficient way possible.
“We knew about Elveflow system as both me and the CEO of Flexpenser, Kewmars Kazemzadeh, have worked in a microfluidic lab during postdoctoral research. This test platform allows us to measure and compare results of different variations of our valving technology in a consistent manner. We can then deliver accurate conclusions about how the technology should be optimized. The instrument is one of the first we purchased when Flexpenser started customizing our technology for commercial purposes, and we have been extremely happy so far. We also receive customer care support around the clock from the team at ElveFlow, which has helped tremendously with our engineering efforts.”
Giulia Gaudenzi, CTO
With the help of Elveflow technologies and with their insight on working with microfluidics, Flexpenser AB was able to efficiently design and test their patented technology for incorporation in a wide variety of applications. Flexpenser technologies are revolutionizing liquid dispensing across a wide range of industrial sectors all while increasing sustainability, improving efficiency and the customer experience for a wide range of liquid products. Elveflow has enabled Flexpenser to achieve conclusive results with its first customers, developing new applications for Flexpenser technology, and will continue to be appreciated as a strategic partner in Flexpenser’s technological development.
