Single spore encapsulation for phytopathogenic fungi

Sehrish Iftikhar, Research Engineer, presents single spore encapsulation for phytopathogenic fungi.

“The single spore/conidia of the fungi can be encapsulated in the droplet using microfluidic techniques. Droplet-based microfluidic explicit a paradigm of providing increased throughputs screening, better mixing, encapsulation, sorting, reduced sample volumes, and single-spore analysis. A simple microfluidic lab-on-chip platform to encapsulate single spore/conidia into droplets creates a uniquely accurate environment for observing the biological responses. Single spore encapsulation has many major applications in a wide variety of fields including antifungal drug discovery, plant pathology, agriculture, fungal enzyme analysis, and food industry.”
