Features & benefits
Cutting-edge microfluidic flow controller for perfusion of engineered tissues
3D tissue models are increasingly being used because they better replicate the physiology of the studied organ. In vivo, tissues are highly vascularized to ensure the supply of nutrients and oxygen to the cells. In vitro, alternatives must be found to prevent the formation of necrotic tissue within the model. In static culture, nutrient supply is ensured by diffusion which is limited to 100-200 µm. Constant perfusion of culture medium within a sufficiently porous 3D model is one of the alternatives to improve nutrient and oxygen access to the cells. Additionally, this technique also allows for varying the flow of medium to replicate pulsatile blood circulation. Designed by scientists for scientists, the versatile and powerful OB1 MK4 pressure controller provides the perfect perfusion control for your experiment.
Whether you need short or week-long experiments, stable or pulsatile flow, the OB1 MK4 flow controller is the ideal instrument for perfusing your in vitro 3D models.
Customizable & upgradable solution depending on your tissue model
The OB1 MK4 flow controller is configured according to your needs and your experiment. Depending on the number of media to perfuse and the number of chips, we can customize the flow controller to fit your requirements. For instance, you want to identify the best perfusion profile for your 3D heart model. With this instrument, you have the capability to tune the pressure profiles, allowing for a comprehensive assessment of the effects of perfusion on your 3D tissue model. The OB1 flow controller can be upgraded at any time according to your needs and experiment developments, in any way you want.
Control the shear stress applied to the cells
Under a flow, cells are submitted to shear stress due to the force that is exerted by the liquid on their surface. This shear stress is a key element to reproducing the physiology but might be dreadful for cells if it is not well controlled. By connecting the OB1 MK4 to a flow rate sensor (MFS) or our premium Coriolis flow sensor (BFS, for both liquid and gas), you can precisely measure the shear stress submitted by the cells. Additionally, our easy-to-use software allows you to control this shear stress over time.
Using our intuitive software, you can create a sequence of instructions to automate your experiments. A more advanced option consists in using the SDK libraries to control the OB1 MK4 using your own code while connecting it to other instruments.
Our cutting-edge microfluidic flow controller for synthetic cells studies can also be used for other applications such as:
- Droplet microfluidics
- Microfluidic Alginate Bead generation
- Flow Chemistry
